ASSISTANT CHILDREN’S MINISTRY DIRECTOR Overview: The Assistant Children’s Ministry Director will oversee the Infant through Preschool Children’s Ministry Department of MUMC. Overall Responsibilities: ? Work in conjunction with the Children’s Minister to help provide strategic leadership to the Children’s Council. ? Hire, recruit, train, and supervise childcare providers, as well as volunteers, in the Infant through Preschool areas, including Sunday School, Wednesday Night Hang Outs, childcare needs, and other events which may be developed. ? Develop a monthly childcare schedule based upon MUMC’s childcare needs and distribute to the childcare providers and the Children’s Minister; create, collect, and submit weekly timecards to the Business Administrator; and follow-up with event leaders, childcare providers, and Children’s Minister as needed to solve any scheduling or event challenge. ? Plan, evaluate, and execute, with the Children’s Minister, new or existing strategies to help transform children’s ministry. Initiatives include the use of technology in the ministry, creating or adapting developmentally appropriate activities, and assisting with planning and adapting spaces to be more child and parent friendly. ? Develop weekly Infant through Preschool Sunday School lesson plans from the provided curriculum website. ? Maintain Infant through Preschool classrooms and supplies, including weekly disinfecting of cups and toys and monthly cleaning and sterilization of rooms. ? Develop and teach weekly Wiggle Worship lesson plans based upon the Scripture utilized in each week’s worship services. ? Purchase and gather supplies, and set-up and clean-up from Infant through Preschool Sunday School, Wednesday Night Hang Outs, and additional programming. ? Assist in the planning and execution of special events related to Children’s Ministry, including, but not limited to Festivals, Advent and Lenten Workshops, Easter Eve Egg Hunt, Children’s Sabbath, Promotion Sunday, and the Family Christmas Eve Worship Service. ? Maintain an active presence in the Infant through Preschool areas of the building. ? Develop relationships with the children, parents, and volunteers, most especially in the Infant through Preschool areas, including greeting the children on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, etc. ? Advocate for the involvement of all children in the life of the church. ? Evaluate the use of curriculum along with the Children’s Minister. ? Develop and administer a yearly budget for Infant through Preschool, including childcare needs, to ensure proper allocation of financial resources; maintain and purchase supplies for Infant through Preschool programming, including childcare, Sunday School, and special events. ? Meet on a weekly basis with the Children’s Minister and attend monthly meetings related to Children’s Ministry throughout the church (Children’s Council, Weekday Directors, etc.) ? Implement and maintain the Safe Sanctuaries Child Protection Policy. ? Attend continuing education events as required to enrich and enhance the MUMC Children’s Ministry. ? Maintain own personal spiritual formation opportunities; attend 8:30 a.m. worship service. Time Commitment/Required: The Assistant Children’s Director is a part-time, salaried position which encompasses supervisory and administrative time as well as teaching. Approximately 20 hours per week are necessary to complete tasks; some weeks more, some weeks less. Weeks requiring more than 20 hours must have pre-approval from the Children’s Minister. Twice a year the position supports the MUMC Children’s Consignment Sale, which requires approximately 50 hours, Tuesday through Saturday. In addition, the position supports the yearly VBS program, which requires approximately 25 hours the week prior to and the week of VBS. The majority of the hours are to be completed on-site. The position is a working member of the Children’s Council, which meets monthly. The position also has responsibility to be present Easter Eve, Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day if Christmas is on a Sunday. Special Talents, Skills Preferred: Love of children and their families. Organization. Responsiveness to e-mail and voice communications. Reliability. Ability to gain the trust and develop relationships with children, parents, and church staff. Professional and reliable e-mail and phone communication. Basic computer and social media skills. Resources and Training Provided: According to the Safe Sanctuaries Policy, MUMC will conduct a criminal background check on all staff and volunteers. Staff must also complete a Safe Sanctuaries training about preventing and reporting child abuse, and a drug test. Continuing education requests may be brought to the Children’s Minister. Support and Relationship to Staff and Church: The Assistant Children’s Director is a church staff member and reports to the Children’s Minister. Time Off/Vacation: Per Personnel Policy. Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
