Elizabethtown District Assists Flood Victims

5/6/2011

Two communities, West Point and Colesburg, in the E-town District were struck hard by the recent flooding. Working in conjunction with the American Red Cross the district Churches have collected and distributed over 63 gallons of bleach and 60 Flood Buckets to help those whose homes were struck by flood water.

In the West Point community over 50 homes had flood damage.  Missy Williams, city clerk of West Point told us, "most of the home owners are self reliant and quickly went to work cleaning the mud and debris from their homes. The most requested item was bleach to disinfect and stop mold from forming." Missy continued, "two of the home owners needed outside help in their cleanup and a team from the Kentucky Baptist Association came and helped them with their cleanup efforts."

The Elizabethtown District is continuing with our collection of flood buckets as the Mississippi and lower Ohio continue to flood over their banks and into surrounding communities. Cleaning supplies and volunteers for cleanup will be needed into the summer as the flood waters subside. If you wish to help, you may contact your district disaster coordinator or district office for details of needs in your area.  If you are unable to contact your district disaster coordinator and you wish to help you may contact the Conference Disaster Coordinator Jim Morse at Jim.morse7311@gmail.com.
