Flash flooding hit areas of Pike County over the weekend, killing two and leaving much physical damage to the area. Ten inches of rain fell in a very short time on July 17, overwhelming many of the creeks in the area.

On Sunday morning, December 5, 2010, the Campton United Methodist Church (Prestonsburg District) dedicated a tree sculpture entitled “Jesus, The Good Shepherd.” The beautiful work of art was created by chainsaw artist Harley Dougherty of Jeffersonville, KY. On January 12, 2010 the Republic of Haiti was racked with the devastating tremors of a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Lives were lost, homes were lost, and in many cases hope was lost. The world watched and waited, wondering how to help, what can we do. Sixteen hundred miles away, part-time local pastor, Roy Harlow, had an answer. It was not the complete answer but it was something the people of the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church could do.

Jackson First is located in historical downtown Jackson, KY. Its physical location is 1022 College Avenue, though this is not its first location. The history of the church dates back to 1834, when an itinerant Methodist minister named Reuben Landrum began the first Methodist ministry in Jackson.
