Rev. Kim Rose and Rev. Don Hatton recently co-hosted a mission trip to Guatemala. Rev. Rose pastors Clay City, Jackson’s Chapel, and Hazel Green. Rev. Hatton is the pastor of Irvine UMC. Participants on this trip included United Methodists from the Hazel Green (Prestonsburg District), Clay City, El Bethel, and West Bend (Lexington District) churches.
The mission group joined several other churches from the Georgetown area. The team conducted Bible school and built a small home and a chicken coop for a family in the Magdelena Community. Rev. Hatton stayed for a second week and worked at the Prince of Peace Home for Girls with a new group of workers. Several of the team made the trip to Picia, an active volcano. Others visited a coffee plantation.
Needless to say, each person came back with a new view of missions and a heart for the people of Guatemala. Every person and every church were blessed by this spiritual journey as the ministered to people in need in the name of Christ. Several are already talking of returning next year and are recruiting others to join them in ministry!
