Effective Leaders, Faithful Disciples, Vital Congregations
The Board of Lay Ministry is composed of the Conference Lay Leader, Associate Lay Leader(s), District Lay Leaders, Conference Director of Lay Speaking, District Directors of Lay Speaking, the United Methodist Women’s President, the United Methodist Men’s President, the United Methodist Youth’s President, a representative for the Hispanic Laity, and a representative for the Scouting Program. There is both a Staff Representative and a clergy member from the Appointive Cabinet. The Kentucky Board of Lay Ministry is Co-Chaired by the Conference Lay Leader and the Conference Director of Lay Speaking.

The Board of Lay Ministry helps to foster an awareness of the role of laity and provides support, training, and direction for the ministry of laity. Lay Speaking Ministries involve leading, caring, and communication. The term Lay Speaker can be a misleading title. Lay Speakers may, besides being a pulpit speaker in a church, choose to lead a Bible Study, start a prayer ministry, teach Sunday School, participate in a prison ministry, and visit the elderly, shut-ins, and nursing homes. The sky is the limit for ways and opportunities to minister.
