The 42nd Annual Meeting of the Southeast Jurisdiction of Black Methodists for Church Renewal (SEJ BMCR) will take place in North Charleston, S.C. from October 28 through October 30, 2010 at the Embassy Suites. Early bird registration at $140.00 ends on September 25. (For more information, download brochures at bottom of the page.)
Amongst the highlights of this annual meeting will be the keynote address to be delivered by the dynamic Reverend Christopher S. Campbell, young adult and senior pastor at Genesis United Methodist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. As well, the preaching giant Rev. Dr. Geraldine McClellan will deliver the banquet address. If you have not heard Dr. McClellan, you are in for a true blessing!
Also, young adults (18 through 30 years old) may register at a reduced rate of $100.00 per person. Please do not only send a representative or two from your church. Send as many young adults as possible to engage them in understanding what BMCR is and how they can participate and make a difference.
The effort this year and beyond for BMCR in the Southeast Jurisdiction and nationally is a renewed emphasis on young adult participation and leadership. Our theme is “Equipping the Saints: Risk Taking Steps.” This must be the focus locally in the Kentucky Annual Conference.
If BMCR is to come alive in the Kentucky Conference, then our young adults (30 and under) must become knowledgeable about the organization, become active in the organization, and become leaders in the organization. This is happening nationally, and the invitation to our very own Chris Campbell is a step in that direction in our jurisdiction; however, we must make a conscious effort to promote and support young adult involvement with BMCR.
To that end, I am sponsoring one young adult from our conference to the SEJ BMCR Annual Meeting. I challenge those who are able and churches to join me by sponsoring young adults so that when we have a BMCR meeting in this conference, they will be well aware of the issues at hand and provide a significant voice to transform the organization.
Will you join me in supporting BMCR and our young people? Will you join me in remembering and honoring our past and supporting our future?
Rev. Anthony Everett is the Nominations Committee Chair for the Southeast Jurisdiction of Black Methodist for Church Renewal and the Associate Director for African American Ministries for the Kentucky Conference New Church and Congregational Development.
