Our Churches Clergy Directory Districts Staff

August 30, 2012

What a fabulous day we had last Saturday. Over 1,000 volunteers from the Kentucky Conference and Red Bird spread out over eight counties to share the love of Christ with our neighbors. I could not have been more proud. Although Jennifer and I could not possibly visit every location, we were able to be in West Liberty, Campton and Frenchburg. We were gratified to see so many “green shirted” people serving in so many different ways.

We finished our day in Frenchburg – the county seat of Menifee County. Menifee is one of only three counties in our state where we do not yet have a United Methodist Church. We organized a community celebration called the “New Hope Festival.” In a county with a population of only 6,000, 1,200 people came. In addition to all the fun we had, we were able to talk to the people about the kind of church they hoped we would start there.

 Listen to what they said:
1.      A church that will focus on the needs of children and youth.
2.      A church where you can come dressed however you like.
3.      A church where no one will look down on you because of your past.
4.      A church that feels like family.

Not bad – sounds like a place I would like to be.

Impact Kentucky – once again we made a difference. I can’t wait until next year to see where the Lord leads us. Thanks to all of those whose hard work made last Saturday possible.
