The Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children & Youth had their Annual Day Auction & BBQ in Versailles on September 8, 2012.

There were plenty of items of interest in the auction. There was a silent auction as well as a live auction. A variety of items ranging from handmade quilts, to gift baskets overflowing with items (like the chocolate basket -yum!), to the rocker that Bishop Davis and his wife so generously donated were to be auctioned off. There was also a bake sale going on, and those items were going fast!

Before the auctions and lunch, everyone gathered for a brief program. Melinda R. Smith, Vice President for Development, gave thanks and recognition to several volunteer groups and individuals who contributed so much to help The Kentucky United Methodists Homes for Children & Youth. Also recognized were several churches across the conference who have made great contributions. The largest this year was given by Christ Church UMC in Louisville. Rev. Randy Coy, President/CEO, presented the Staff of the Year Award to Betty Q., stating that she was a long-time employee, exceptional at her job, had an incredible personality and was a true gift to the residents. Bishop Davis said he appreciated all that they do at The Kentucky United Methodists Homes for Children & Youth and that he is a cheerleader for them and their work.

Bishop Davis also announced that Rev. Randy Coy will be filling in as the interim District Superintendent for Lexington as well as continuing his current position as President/CEO of The Kentucky United Methodists Homes for Children & Youth. Another change for the Homes included the recent purchase of 30 acres in Jessamine County,  which will be the new site for The Kentucky United Methodists Homes for Children & Youth. There will be new facilities built on the new property, and the future of the current site is still undecided at this time.

Rev. Howard Reynolds, Board of Trustees member, gave a word of prayer to bless the day, and an offering was taken up to help with the possible purchase of a vehicle for the Homes.

After the program everyone was welcomed to partake in the BBQ lunch that was provided and to start looking over the items in the silent auction.  After lunch the live auction was to begin.
