Effective Worship and Preaching
Rev. Adam Hamilton taught his second session this morning and discussed ways to improve worship, technology and possibilities for the future. His sessions have been very well received by both the clergy and laity.
The day’s work began with an update on the Change for Change running total: At that time, $5,348.00 had been raised for grants to benefit children in poverty! Bishop Davis called the meeting to order, and Tami Coleman gave a report on Connectional Café and opportunities for workshops for our local churches. Military chaplains were introduced, as were our college presidents. The Francis Asbury award was presented to Ron Alvis. Campus ministers came forward for a prayer by Bishop Davis. Owen Dolin reported that 736 United Methodists participated in 40 projects at 25 sites. The selfie contest video added a spirit of lightheartedness, got the young people in attendance energized and added some fun to the morning session. Don Rankin invited everyone to Lake Junaluska in North Carolina. A prayer of thanksgiving was said for the ministry of the four churches that were closed this year.
Mission, Evangelism and Methodism
The third session led by Adam Hamilton focused on Mission, Evangelism and Methodism. Tips for Preparing for Visitors, and a discussion on Evangelism and Social Justice being Two Halves of one Gospel were some of the highlights of the session. The last part of the session centered on Why United Methodism Matters Now More Than Ever, and left us with a message of hope for the church.
Equipped to Serve and Reach the World
Clergy & lay delegates sat together by districts, while the Bishop Davis read the names of those moving to new appointments. Annual Conference was dismissed and delegates were sent out to serve!
Dates for next year are set: Annual Conference 2014 will take place in Bowling Green, June 8-11, 2015!
