On Tuesday, March 15th from 4:30-5:30 pm, Lighthouse Academy at Newburg will host a Launch Celebration featuring an outdoor unveiling of their new name and signage and an indoor presentation that will include the children of Lighthouse Academy at Newburg and Bishop Lindsey Davis, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin, Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton and other local dignitaries.
When asked about the event, Al Kirkpatrick, Board Chair at Lighthouse Academy, said: “We are honored to have the Governor and Lt. Governor attend our celebration and are thrilled to publicly announce our new name which more accurately reflects who we are and our focused attention on learning and education. Additionally, our name change signifies and respects the efforts of all our children. Our students who attend activities and classes here, work so hard to increase their learning skills, social skills and become leaders in their community. The Lighthouse Academy at Newburg fully recognizes each student as a Lighthouse Scholar – each on his/her own path of discovery and growth. It is exciting to be a part of this nurturing of children and families, helping them to succeed. We know we couldn’t do it without the help of our board, our donors and community volunteers.”
The Lighthouse Academy at Newburg (formerly Lighthouse Community Center) is a ministry of the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and a vital force in the Newburg community and surrounding areas. The Lighthouse Academy is helping children and youth achieve higher academic levels; encouraging them to cultivate a love for the arts, and motivating them to develop their potential to become moral and spiritual leaders in their community. Lighthouse Academy provides a free after school program and a 5-week summer program for elementary and middle school students, youth mentoring programs, a GED program and an Athletic Center. Lighthouse Academy works to bring about long term spiritual, educational, and economic renewal and growth by working in partnership with families, churches, Jefferson County Public Schools, the Kentucky Department of Education, Foundations, Businesses, and other agencies.
