The KY Annual Conference’s efforts to share the love of God with our military personnel is expanding. The High Ground church, which launched in September of 2014, is partnering with the Pennyrile District to start a second campus serving the Fort Campbell area.
Currently, the Fort Knox campus has experienced growth by ministering to a section of our population often underserved by the local church. Current statistics indicate that “no-preference” is one of the largest self-designations for military personnel as it pertains to their religious affiliation. Atheistic, Wiccan, and other movements are also gaining traction within the ranks.
Lead by Rev. Kevin Stamps, an Army Reserve Chaplain serving at Fort Knox, The High Ground has been able to reach many of these individuals with practically 0% of their growth coming from transfers. Instead, The High Ground has reached unchurched, de-churched, and new believers primarily. A team is currently being developed to help plant the new campus.
When asked what The High Ground might need from fellow brothers and sisters in the Conference, Kevin Stamps said, “Prayers. We don’t believe we’re special in any way, but we are reaching a population that is incredibly transient and incredibly disinterested in religion. This is a kingdom effort and we’re excited to partner with the Conference and the leaders in the Pennyrile District.”
