Full-Time Church Custodian

Under general supervision, the Custodian shall perform routine manual duties to support a variety of cleaning and custodial tasks on and around MUMC's campus. The Custodian will keep building spaces clean and orderly and will be assigned to work various campus buildings. Position: Full-Time Custodian needed Tuesday through Saturday. Responsibilities include: Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax and buff floors Vacuum, shampoo and steam carpets Sweep walkways, stairs, and entry-ways May need to operate heavy floor care equipment Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, metal work, and fixtures Clean restrooms and replenish supplies; clean and disinfect water fountains, sinks, and fixtures. Empty and clean waste receptacles, recycling containers, and dispose of trash; pick up litter from grounds Keep inside premises in a neat and orderly condition Wash wall fixtures and windows; clean blinds and screens; remove graffiti Set-up and tear down furniture and equipment for special events or meetings Check security of facility; report conditions which may indicate vandalism, illegal entry, or fire hazards; turn out lights and lock doors upon leaving Report safety hazards and significant repairs to Supervisor Keep utility storage areas and custodial equipment clean & in good working order Maintain equipment, supplies, and materials used for work Use of chemical cleaning products as required Maintain an awareness of proper work safety guidelines & procedures, and applies these in performing daily activities and tasks Attend meetings and training per requirements of Supervisor Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of personal contact Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent preferred Minimum 6 months work experience in a related field; or Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of methods and practices used in cleaning floors, walls, windows, fixtures, and furnishings Knowledge of safe and appropriate use of cleaning materials, chemicals, disinfectants, and custodial equipment such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, etc. Ability to perform heavy manual labor; including: moving furniture, handling custodial equipment, and lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs Ability to learn and apply the approved methods of cleaning and caring for buildings, fixtures, and equipment; learn to operate cleaning equipment, such as floor care machines Ability to use and maintain custodial equipment and tools; use hand tools as necessary Ability to read, understand, and apply written instructions; including: work procedures, product labels, material safety data sheets, and equipment instruction manuals. Ability to maintain simple records, such as logs and time cards Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, and to balance workload to meet schedules and deadlines in a timely manner Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, supervisors, co-workers, and members/guests of the congregation Performs routine, repetitive work to completion Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.
