Director of Youth Ministries State Street United Methodist Church State Street United Methodist Church, Bowling Green, Kentucky, invites qualified applicants for the part-time, salaried position of Director of Youth Ministries.

Position Description To direct and lead youth programming for Middle and High School age youth. To foster Christian community through building relationships with youth that strengthen their commitment to the church and growth and faith in Jesus Christ.

Duties and Responsibilities • Provide leadership for and function as the primary staff person relating to Middle and High School age youth. • Plan and implement age appropriate activities for youth that promote community through fellowship, fun and faith formation to include activities such as Bible Study, retreats, mission trips and service projects. • Teach/lead in Sunday school class. • Recruit and nurture youth through a regular plan of visitation, including attendance at activities involving youth in programs outside the church, such as plays, sports, recitals, etc. • Work with the Youth Council to develop and lead the youth ministry. • Recruit and support volunteers to aid in the development and implementation of youth programs and activities • Schedule and prepare in advance for transitional activities, such as integration of students coming up from the children’s ministry, Confirmation class and recognition of graduating high school seniors. • In consultation with the Senior Pastor and Director of Discipleship, plan and implement Confirmation classes. • Publish and send monthly newsletters and communications to active, inactive and prospective youth program members. • Keep congregation informed of youth events and activities through use of the Circuit Writer, SSUMC website, bulletin boards, flyers and other appropriate communication methods. • Promote youth involvement across the life of the church. • Assist with Vacation Bible School. • Coordinate fund-raising activities that support special youth activities and trips. • Seek ways to communicate and engage with college age students in our church and the community.

Qualifications and Aptitudes Unwavering and growing faith in Jesus Christ. Experienced church youth or education leader with a solid understanding of the United Methodist tradition and a strong desire to nurture young people in the Christian faith. The ability to relate effectively to young people and establish trust while maintaining discipline during their activities. Proven ability to work successfully with youth, parents of youth, church staff, and volunteers. Strong communication, organizational, time management and conflict resolution skills. Must be willing to submit to a background check.

Desired: Bachelor’s Degree in Church Education, Counseling or equivalent area of study.

Hours and Salary This is a salaried, part-time position (average of 20-25 hours per week). Because of the nature of this position, work hours will be flexible to meet the needs of the students. The annual salary is $20,000.
