Every third Monday in January, we pause to reflect and honor the great legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The impact of his life’s work continues to touch our lives today and we are forever grateful for his relentlessness efforts to ensure civil and voting rights for all.
Congregations representing The United Methodist Church, African Methodist Episcopal Church, African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, have come together once again this year to share in the planning and preparation for our 2019 Martin Luther King Day Celebration. Our celebration will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 1901 West Chestnut Street at 2:00 P.M. and the theme is “Faith Communities in the Midst of the Dream.” Pastors and Laity representing our Ecumenical community will give reflections on the life and legacy of Dr. King (see flyer). Because we want our children to appreciate the sacrifices that others have made for them, again this year prior to the service, we will have a re-enactment of the Civil Rights March and we are asking that youth groups make signs focusing on the struggle to use in the march. Please arrive at the church at 1:00 P.M. to prepare for the march. We are asking the youth ministry leaders at each church to also encourage your youth and children to participate in the poster and essay contest (see flyer attached).
Please see the form attached to nominate a youth and an adult for our Pan Methodist Civil Rights Award. This person should be one who has served in the Pan Methodist Church and made significant contribution to civil rights/voting rights. Look for the due date on the form.
We invite you and your congregation to join us in our celebration. Use the information attached to publicize the event at your church and encourage especially the youth and young adults to participate. Please follow the link to the following forms:

We look forward to coming together to remember and celebrate this “drum major” for justice, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. May we be encouraged to continue this very important work. Please contact Ida Suggs at ida.suggs@att.net or Jan Brown-Thompson at msjanbt@aol.com for further information.
We ask for your prayers and your support.
