Dr. John W. Hatton

Heartland District Clergy are invited to come together and learn about building trust with one another through patient, hopeful conversation. The day will begin with a sermon from our district superintendent followed by Holy Communion. The seminar portion of the day will be led by Rev. Craig Tuck and Rev. Adam Shourds.
Difficult conversations are never a fun thing to have. Whether it be an upcoming difficult administrative council meeting, a tense SPR meeting, supervision of an employee, or a conversation with another person over a divisive issue; we often try and avoid these conversations and grit our teeth when we are forced to have them. The culture we live in now is very divided. People who hold differing views often relegate the other person to the status of “adversary.” People are “de-friended” on social media because of differing views. In fact, if one tries to hear the viewpoints of someone whom we disagree with, we often can be labeled as a traitor.
The Church is called to be something more than this. We are called to be a community of peace, even when we are in strong disagreement. Proverbs 20:5 reminds us that, “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.” These words are powerful and calls us to a patient hope as we draw out the purposes of each other's hearts. They call us to the practice of hearing. It is very counter-cultural and Christians should be a peculiar people in our culture. Especially for clergy who live in a covenant community, we are called to love and build trust with one another as an example to the rest of the Church, even in our disagreements.

Cost is $15.00 per person which will include lunch.

Childcare will be available if registering by October 18th
