You are invited to come to the mountains!   To rest, relax, renew…..and to talk about  ministry.

On Friday, Oct. 3, Henderson Settlement will be kicking off an occasional series that we are calling “MountainTalk”.   We are inviting in some pastors and others to teach and talk around a particular theme involving mission and ministry – and inviting you to come share in the learning and the conversation.   It’s designed to be a place for some laid-back learning, as well as a space to do some thinking and dreaming about ministry and mission possibilities. We will listen and learn from each other.
Our first theme is   “Building Community in Broken Places” and we are bringing in some pastors who approach this in some different ways.   Rebekah Fetzer of Cokesbury UMC in Knoxville, TN is the founder and director of Susannah’s House in Knoxville, a ministry to women and their children caught in addiction. John Gargis (Lincoln Park UMC in Knoxville) is one of the leaders in the Celebrate Recovery network in north Knoxville. Barry Kidwell (Signal Crest UMC) is the founder of the Mustard Tree Ministries, an outreach to the homeless and low income communities in Chattanooga.
Each of these pastors will share about their particular ministries, and how they came to be involved in these ministries.   Our hope is that you’ll join the conversation, and that out of this time will come some learning, some new ideas, and even some new collaborations and connections to support those ideas!
Here’s the tentative schedule:
8 a.m. Breakfast and registration
9 a.m.  Introductions
9:15- 11:30 Ministry stories
11:30   Lunch
12:30 the conversation continues
3 p.m. Wrap up

The cost for the day is $30 (including meals). You are also cordially invited to stay at Henderson Settlement Thursday night or Friday night (for an additional fee). We are a beautiful place just to relax and to be.   Continuing education credits are available. We will have a Cokesbury book table and lots of coffee as well.
