As part of BMCR’s 2009-2012 quadrennial theme, “Achieving Excellence in Ministry” (Psalm 15:1-4), the 42nd annual meeting will focus on congregational development. Our program will focus on New Church Development, Congregational Transformation and Revitalization, and sharing ministry models that are reaching new people for Jesus Christ.

Through plenary sessions and learning labs, we will explore the fact that there are different challenges for different churches; we’ll examine the reality that historical Black congregations are being closed and/or merging with other churches, while many existing congregations lack the human and financial resources to develop and maintain effective ministries in their communities.

We recognize the need for healthy congregations so we’ll delve into various models throughout Black Methodism that are effective centers for equipping and empowering ministries. What are they doing to achieve success? How do we foster effective collaborations between clergy and laity as we make disciples for Jesus Christ? What are resources within the denomination that will help our churches reach new people in new places?
