On Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8, 2009 the Annual Conferences of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church will sponsor an intentional spiritual formation weekend of Christian vocation exploration for youth in grades 10-12 at the beautiful Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center. The purpose of the weekend is to provide a space for 100 African-American youth from the annual conferences of the Southeastern Jurisdiction and beyond to explore Christian ministry as a vocation in The United Methodist Church.
During this time together, the youth, along with 20-25 Adult Mentors, will worship God through the ministry of education and exploration of various ministries within The United Methodist Church. The weekend will be grounded in spirit-filled worship, rich opportunities for small group sessions, fellowship and mentoring sessions for youth to discover, explore and celebrate a call to ministry. There will also be a resource fair with United Methodist-related seminaries and general agency representatives on-site.
The registration fee for the retreat is $75 per youth. Scholarships are available on an as-needed basis.
The completed application materials must be postmarked on or before February 9, 2009.
