Volunteers In Mission seeks to achieve the Great Commission through providing short-term mission opportunities for everyday Christians to reach others with God’s love. These opportunities may be local, national, or international. VIM promotes, encourages, trains, and enables Christians to exemplify “Christian Love In Action.”
The 2004 General Conference ruled that each annual conference may set aside a Sunday to be declared Volunteers In Mission Awareness Day. It was suggested that each local church provide for UMVIM displays, information resources, solicit individual or group testimonies, and/or develop other ways to celebrate the UMVIM movement in whatever fashion that best suits the local congregation. Local churches are to draw upon the available resources of the Conference UMVIM Committee to help make the day memorable.
This year Kentucky Conference will celebrate UMVIM Awareness Sunday on September 14, 2008.
The VIM Sunday offering will be used for 2 purposes.
- To purchase life saving medications for use by the Ugandan medical team. Kentucky VIM is sending a medical team to Uganda in November to help refugees and orphans there. Large quantities of medicine are needed.
- For partial scholarships to help defray teammember’s costs on an international team.
Please put VIM Sunday on your calendar and help us celebrate this ministry in your church.
