Fall District Mission Celebration Meeting by Barb Nicholls Communication Coordinator
The KY East District United Methodist Women Fall Celebration of Missions gathering is set for Saturday, September 16, at Louisa 1st UMC, 202 West Main Street, Louisa, KY. Registration will open at 9:30 A.M., and the meeting will begin at 10:00 A.M. The gracious Louisa 1st ladies will present a basket of many things your UMW unit can use (including 50 crocheted crosses!) to the unit that has the most ladies in attendance.
The purpose of the annual fall meeting is to celebrate our mission successes through the year. As I explained in the last newsletter, each unit is asked to bring and present a report (including pictures, samples, etc.) to share with the group about a mission project your unit has done this year either alone or in partnership with other units.
If your unit participates in the KY Conference Baby Blanket project or the ABC Baby Quilt project, please bring those items to this celebration and we will make sure they are delivered to the KY Conference UMW Mission Celebration on October 28 in Elizabethtown. Also in preparation for the State Conference, our District is asked to bring pencil boxes or pouches to donate to the Lighthouse Academy and to the Portland Promise Center, both in Louisville.
The mission offering we receive at the meeting will go to a local mission, the Louisa Area Food Bank. You may also want to bring some canned or non-perishable food items to donate to this local mission.
During the business session in the afternoon, we will recognize those units who have achieved five and six-star unit status, Mission Today accomplishments, and Reading Program awards. We will also recognize those members who have passed away this year and install new officers for the coming year.
Your Mission Team has worked hard to plan a productive meeting to celebrate our mission successes this year and offer ideas to take back to your unit as you continue your work of spreading the love of Jesus Christ in your backyard and around the world. I hope you will plan to come and bring many of your United Methodist women to this meeting. It is always a blessing to meet and fellowship with our sisters in Christ!
Thanks in advance to the ladies of Louisa 1st UMC for hosting us! Hope to see your there!
