The Lay Academy of Church Excellence (LACE) is designed for United Methodist lay people to become more effective members of their local church and to become an effective witness in the local community.The classes assist lay people to enable them to lead local congregations for the transformation of the world.

Who Can Participate?
Any United Methodist who wants to learn more about the United Methodist Church, and wants to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Each applicant must have the recommendation of his/her pastor and their church.

What Sessions Must I Take?
To become a Basic Lay Servant and serve in your local church, you must attend Basic Sessions 1 and 2. These sessions are designed to make disciples more effective leaders even if they do not want to become a lay speaker.
To become an Advanced Certified Lay Speaker, and be able to speak in other churches you must attend the Basic Sessions 1 and 2, and Advanced Sessions 3 and 4. Those wishing to re-certify will register for Advanced Sessions 3 and 4.

How Long is Each Session?
9 am - 4 pm. Lunch will be provided.

What is the Cost of the Classes?
$60 per session
The district is asking each individual to pay $20 per session, their church to pay $20 per session and the district will pay $20 per session.

Where and when will these sessions be held?
Basic Classes 1 and 2 will be held at two locations on October 5 (session 1) and November 2 (session 2). Choose the location that is most convenient for you, Hindman UMC or Science Hill UMC.
