A National Call for Moral Revival will be holding a Poor People’s Hearing on Friday, November 2, at 7:00 PM at Total Grace Church, 1313 North Limestone Street, in Lexington. The Poor People’s Campaign is an extension of the campaign by the same name that Dr. Martin Luther King was working on at the time of his death. The United Methodist Church is an endorsing partner of the contemporary campaign, which seeks “to challenge the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation’s distorted morality” (poorpeoplescampaign.org). This past summer, tens of thousands of people across 41 states gathered at their statehouses each Monday for six weeks to demand change. At Frankfort, hundreds gathered for this purpose on those six Mondays, including people directly affected by these evils and faith leaders supporting them. The Poor People’s Hearing in Lexington will be moderated by the national campaign leaders, the Rev. Dr. Williams J. Barber, II, and the Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharris, and will include testimony from persons impacted by these evils. Let’s have a good United Methodist presence at this important event.
