UMVIM is Making a Difference.
 
There is never a lack of ways to be involved in the church.  Let me add one more possibility to your list.  Missions. The United Methodist Church has one of the best mission ministries offerings available; it’s the United Methodist Volunteers in Missions or UMVIM for short.  
 
In my 20 some years in ministry, I’ve run into so many people that have said, “I just don’t know what I could do.  I don’t know anything about construction.”  And that is a valid response, but UMVIM is more than swinging hammers and pounding nails.  Through UMVIM one has the opportunity to glean fields to fill food pantries with food that would otherwise have spoiled in the fields.  One can get involved with ministering to the homeless on the streets of Atlanta.  One can be involved with leading a summer day camp in Florida.  Minister with the Choctaw Indian Mission of Mississippi.  Working at the UMCOR Sager-Brown Center in Louisiana preparing various kits for distribution around the world.  Leading VBS in Belize, Cote d’Ivoire, Estonia, or Serbia.  Or maybe it’s leading a team in your local community. And of course there is always a need for your hammer and nails.
