United Methodist Connection is the second Advanced Course of LACE (201) offered in 2019, and it will be on March 9 at various locations in each KYUMC District. Some districts may be offering additional courses at the same time, such as LACE 101. Please see below for district information. This session will be live streamed from 10 AM to 3 PM Eastern Time, 9 AM to 2 PM Central Time.
Bishop Al Gwinn (retired) will be leading the study on United Methodist Connection, which will help attendees learn more about the UMC's history and polity. He has a passion for giving back to the church when he can, and has enjoyed teaching LACE previously!
Bishop Gwinn was ordained in the Kentucky Annual Conference as an Elder and served various congregations (rural, town, and urban), before becoming Lexington District Superintendent and then elected to Bishop in 2004 and placed in the North Carolina Conference. In addition, he served as Associate director of the Conference Council on Ministries, chaired the Board of Ordained Ministry (1996-2004), chaired the Committee on New Church Starts, chaired the Area Episcopal Committee (1991-2000), and was a prominent leader in the Uniting Committee of the Kentucky and Louisville Conferences. He was a General Conference Delegate in 1988, l992, l996, and 2000, and head of the delegation in 2004. He was a member of the General Council on Ministries and the SEJ Administrative Council.
Following this long and fruitful ministry, Bishop Gwinn and his wife, Joyce, retired to Lexington to be near their children and grandchildren.
