Kentucky Conference Mission Grants

Kentucky Conference Mission Grants will be awarded annually by the Kentucky Conference Mission Team.  Grants of up to $5,000 are available from two grant pools - one for mission work within the Kentucky Annual Conference, and one for mission work internationally.   The eligibility and guidelines for each grant pool are described in detail below, with links to applications. Grant applications for both pools open January 1, 2023 and close February 28, 2023.  Grants are funded by earnings from the Merrick Fund and the Thorton Estate Fund


Pool A – Kentucky Conference Missions

Grants will be awarded annually to churches, institutions, teams, or projects related to the Kentucky Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church for the purpose of extending the mission of The United Methodist Church to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the World” within the counties that comprise the geographic area of the Kentucky Conference. 

The following are eligible to apply for and receive grants:

  • Mission institutions that are affiliated institutions of the Kentucky Conference
  • Mission institutions related to the various Districts of Kentucky Conference
  • Mission institutions within the bounds of the Kentucky Conference related to the United Women of Faith or the General Board of Global Ministries
  • Mission institutions or organizations related to a local church of the Kentucky Conference. 
  • Local Churches of the Kentucky Conference for the purpose of supporting evangelistic or social outreach to refugees and/or immigrants.
  • Local Churches of the Kentucky Conference for the purpose of supporting evangelistic or social outreach in the areas of addiction ministry, food insecurity, and housing insecurity.
  • Local Churches of the Kentucky Conference organized as mission congregations.

Grants may be requested in any amount up to $5,000, and for any purpose in support of the church’s mission by any of the eligible parties listed above.

Notification of grant awards will happen before April 1, 2023; with funds disbursed in April 2023.   The Pool A application can be found here


Pool B - International Missions

Grants will be awarded annually to churches, institutions, teams, or projects related to The United Methodist Church for the purpose of extending the mission of church to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the World” outside of the United States of America.  International Mission Grants will be awarded only to churches, institutions, teams, or projects outside of the United States of America.  Each grant application must come with a signed nomination from a Kentucky Conference United Methodist layperson or clergyperson.  Preference will be given to projects that have an active connection to United Methodist congregations in Kentucky. 

The following are eligible to be nominated for a grant:

  • Any congregation, mission project, district, or Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church located outside of the United States of America.
  • Any mission project, located outside of the United States of America, that is listed as an Advance Project by the General Board of Global Ministries.
  • Any congregation, mission project, district, or Conference of a related or autonomous Methodist Church located in a country where The United Methodist Church does not have local churches. 

Grants may be requested in any amount up to $5,000, and for any purpose in support of the church’s mission for any of the eligible parties listed above.   Grant applications must detail an accountable channel for the recipient of the grant to receive the funds. 

Grants will not be made to help pay the travel expenses of volunteer mission teams travelling from or to The United States of America.
