“I pray you may have the power to comprehend, what is the breadth and length and height and depth and to know the love of Christ that surpasses all knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” - Ephesians 3:18-19 NRSV
As we anticipate celebrating the birth of our King, may we see more than the “sweet baby Jesus”story. This event of God coming to us is so full of the story of our loving creator God. Why did He create us? Why did He come to us? How do we respond to God?
We have partially discovered the vastness of the universe - which is beyond our imagination - all created by our loving God. Think of our own world that He created and the natural laws that govern it. Consider what we experience - good vs. evil, love vs. hate, law vs. chaos, discipline vs. ease, sacrifice vs. me first, Calvary vs. judgment, mercy vs. punishment, hope vs. defeat. This knowledge should challenge us to seek to understand more of who God is and what He desires for us.
Because of Christ’s birth, sacrifice and resurrection, we have been given the right to be filled with God’s Spirit! Emmanuel ... God with us!
As we look forward to the birth of the Son of God, may we open our hearts to the vastness of His love. The love that changes us into children of God.
