Advent Devotional December 12

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” - Isaiah 9:6
Somehow during this time of the year, it doesn’t matter what challenges we may be facing or have faced: We find ourselves catapulted into another realm of reflection and hope. We are taken back to that day when Christ was born and reflect on His entrance into the world, wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger. God loved us so much that He sent His son into the world that we might have an abundant life through Christ Jesus.
Advent ushers us into Christmas and the birth of Jesus. As we stand on tiptoe anticipating the birth of the Christ Child, we are reminded of God’s love for us. I pray during this season that our hearts will be overflowing with the love of Jesus and that love for others be reflected in our actions and deeds. I pray we can be the hands and feet of Christ and reach out to those who are suffering from broken relationships, those who are enduring illnesses, those who are grieving the loss of loved ones, and those who are hungry or in need of clothing.
During this Advent season and beyond, I pray we will be a reflection on Earth of God’s love for us. “And the world will know we are Christians by our love.”
