Bishop and Treasurer offer important tornado relief update

To Clergy and United Methodists across Kentucky,
We are amazed. Your hearts, your actions, and your generosity inspire us. You are responding to challenges around us with Spirit-led servants’ hearts. While you continue to assess and respond to the devastation in your communities, our Conference Disaster Response team and others are doing the same – assessing and responding. We are learning, seeing, and hearing the stories of trauma not yet covered by the news.
Today we are asking for your continued prayers and financial support.
We’d like to share a few specific ways you and the Conference can support our collective efforts:
- Please encourage individuals to give to our Conference Disaster Relief Ministry Fund.
- Please consider a special offering at your church to receive funds for our Disaster Relief Ministry Fund.
- The Conference Council on Finance & Administration (CFA) is making an initial contribution of $50,000 to our Disaster Relief Ministry Fund. CFA is also committing 10% of December Our Mission Covenant contributions to our Disaster Relief Ministry Fund.
Checks can be mailed to:
Kentucky Conference, Disaster Response Ministry Fund,
7400 Floydsburg Road
Crestwood, KY 40014
Please note “Disaster Response: Advance# 200902” in the memo.
You can also give electronically via our secure online giving portal: Kentucky Conference: Disaster Relief Donations (kyumc.org)
Your financial gifts today will enable both our immediate and sustaining responses to the tragedy around us. Immediately, your gifts will support our Conference and local churches to provide direct services of sheltering, feeding, cleaning, supporting volunteer teams, providing tools and materials, and meeting other developing needs.
As the relief and recovery work continues in the coming weeks, months, and years, we are committed to our churches and communities. Alongside you and others, CFA will consider additional ways to sustain our relief efforts.
Thank you, again. Your generosity today is inspiring, and strengthening our efforts across our Conference and Commonwealth.
Please keep our clergy, congregations, and communities in your prayers.
Peace,
Bishop Leonard Fairley
