United Methodists Respond to Nepal Earthquake

April 27, 2015

An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale struck west of the ancient Nepali capital of Kathmandu, Pokhara, on Saturday 25 April 2015, at 11:41am local Nepal time. It is the most powerful earthquake to hit the region in 81 years. At present we are asking United Methodists throughout the conference to continue to be in prayer for those survivors in Nepal, the first responders and our missionaries in the area. It has been confirmed that all of our missionaries and their families are safe.

The General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, through its disaster-relief arm and in conjunction with longtime local and international partners and Nepal-based Global Ministries missionaries, is responding to the devastating earthquake that rocked Nepal April 25.
Monday, April 27, the UMCOR approved a grant of $90,000 for international partner GlobalMedic to bring sorely needed clean water to survivors through provision of household and public water-filtration units.
Donations to support the response to the earthquake in Nepal and other international disasters can be made through UMCOR Advance # 982450.
Checks can be made out to your local church or made online at: https://secure3.convio.net/gbgm/site/SPageNavigator/umcor_donate.html?type=1002&project=982450. Please write UMCOR Advance #982450 on the memo line.
