Lighthouse Clean Up Day
On Saturday, March 29, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., around 40 students, parents, volunteers, staff, and a special team from Southeast Christian Church joined with our team from the Lighthouse Community Center (A United Methodist Community Center) as we participated in a special "Clean Up Project." Special emphasis was placed on cleaning the inside and outside of the Lighthouse. Breakfast and lunch were provided for participants.
Some of the tasks included picking up and bagging limbs on almost 5 acres of land in the rear of our facility (the site of our future facility); cleaning the craft room, bathrooms, and computer room; and picking up paper or trash on our grounds and across Shepherdsville Road on the property and grounds of General Electric.
Some of our students got started before they arrived at the Lighthouse as we joined with Newburg Youth Council, Operation Brightside, and TARC in the special "Clean Up Newburg Day" effort.
It was such a joy to witness all the teamwork with various age groups, genders, and ethnic backgrounds. Parents took the lead on the inside, while children, youth, staff, and volunteers from Southeast led the successful efforts on the outside. Rev. Bobby Huguley, Executive Director of the Lighthouse, led this project in collaboration with Janet Warren of Southeast Christian Church and Ms. Dee and Rev. Roosevelt Lightsy, Jr. of Newburg Youth Council.
We're looking forward to our next Clean Up the Lighthouse effort in May, especially due to all the fun we experienced.
