The Kentucky Association of Homes and Services for the Aging Announces 2008 Award Winners

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Kentucky Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, Inc. (KAHSA) announced its statewide award winners for 2008 at KAHSA’s 31st Annual Awards Luncheon, held October 3, 2008 at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville.

KAHSA member retirement communities serve over 12,000 Kentuckians every day through mission-driven, community-based organizations dedicated to providing the services elders need, when they need them, in the place they call “home.”

KAHSA is proud to honor two of Wesley Manor’s staff members and one outstanding Wesley Manor volunteer. We congratulate them for their outstanding service to residents of Wesley Manor.  These honorees are:

Gerry Bonsell – 2008 Outstanding Admissions Coordinator
Six-year Wesley Manor nurse, Ms. Bonsell is the Admission Coordinator at Wesley Manor Retirement Community. She loves her job, residents and fellow staff members so much that she is frequently heard to exclaim, “I can’t believe I get paid to do this!”  She works very hard to keep Wesley Manor’s accommodations filled in Hoskinson House Assisted Living Center and the Memory Care Center, home to early-mid stage Alzheimer’s/Dementia residents.  Gerry spends as much time as needed with families to help them make a good and informed placement decision.  Deanna Young, RN, Vice President of Nursing and Client Services at Wesley Manor says, “Gerry is a shining example of an employee who has found her ministry in her work!”

Donna Howard – 2008 Bell-Eitel Scholarship Award
Donna Howard began working at Wesley Manor as a Certified Nursing Assistant in May 2004.  Supporting herself, she also became an LPN while also working a full-time schedule.  Ever positive and upbeat, Donna always puts residents’ needs first, providing much individualized time and attention. Donna is a resident advocate who works with our Social Services and Nursing Directors to resolve to help resolve problem issues. The Bell-Eitel Scholarship will assist Donna in finishing her degree to become a Registered Nurse.

Linda Campbell - Outstanding 2008 Adult Volunteer Award
Five year volunteer Linda Campbell has stitched and donated over 20 quilts to Wesley Manor’s “Butterfly Program,” which provides extra TLC to residents nearing life’s end.  Rev. Rebecca Church says of Linda Campbell:  “As our residents lay beneath these quilts they may never know the hands that stitched them, but like the pieces of a quilt we are all linked in this divine dance of life.  For Linda, her unselfish gifts will not only warm the bodies, but the spirits of those who are preparing to take flight from this world to the next.”

KAHSA’s commitment is to create the future of aging services through quality care that the public can trust.

Mr. Timothy L. Veno, President of KAHSA said, “KAHSA is proud to honor Wesley Manor’s Gerry Bonsell, Donna Howard and Linda Campbell for their hard work and dedication.  Their commitment to older adults and their loved ones enables Wesley Manor residents to live their lives to their fullest potential!”
