Buechel Celebrates Pentecost
Buechel Church (Louisville District) has four Sundays each year when there is one combined worship service and a fellowship meal. Pentecost Sunday is one of those special days for this diverse congregation, as several languages are often heard in the halls of Buechel United Methodist Church.
Buechel Church is intentional about being economically and ethnically diverse by creatively reaching out to the community where the church is located. The Buechel congregation is intentional about being a place of grace where persons are accepted regardless of where they are in their faith journey. By building "no strings attached" relationships with persons outside the church, persons who formerly were not part of a faith family are finding Christ through a faith family that practices unconditional love.
What a blessed day! The combined worship service included Acts 2 in five languages: Nepalese, Korean, Spanish, Greek, and English. Children from the congregation were able to say "God is Love" in Spanish, Nepalese, Korean, and English. Music included hymns and praise choruses; a rousing spiritual, "Send it on Down;" and the classic, "Love in Any Language." The congregation transitioned to the fellowship hall and shared food from everyone's ethnic backgrounds. Some folks made it more festive by dressing in traditional attire.
