Opportunities for Conference to Make a Difference in Covington Community
With the Annual Conference right around the corner, there are some wonderful opportunities headed your way! There is an “Afternoon of Service” scheduled for Thursday the 10th of June, when each delegate, each clergy, and each family member will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of projects ranging from Prayer Walks through the Assembly of Health Kits into visiting Nursing Homes and Random Acts of Kindness in the community.
Please consider this as an opportunity to show the city of Covington that the United Methodist Church is a “Church in Action!” Everyone has the opportunity to sign up at www.kyumc.org/ac2010service, and we hope that you will prayerfully take advantage of this unique opportunity. Let us be United Methodists reaching out to others in service – “Sent to Serve.”
One of the projects at the Afternoon of Service will be the assembly of 1000 Health Kits. This effort will be coordinated and led by the United Methodist Women of the Covington District, but they will need the help of the entire Kentucky Conference to assist the Conference in reaching its goal. Each DISTRICT will be responsible for securing specific items for the Health Kits through the individual churches of that district and bringing them to the Annual Conference.
Below is a breakout of what is required.
Ashland: 500 hand towels
Bowling Green: 500 hand towels
Columbia: 1000 washcloths
Corbin: 1000 combs
Covington: $1000 for shipping
Elizabethtown:1000 toothbrushes
Frankfort: $500 donation for toothpaste
Lexington: 6000 regular adhesive plastic bandages and $ donation for shipping material (box and tape)
Louisville: 1000 nail files or clippers and $ donation for shipping material (boxes and tape)
Owensboro: 1000 bath size bars of soap

Another service project will be the collection of CANS of non-perishable food for the food pantries in Covington. We are asking every person who attends the Annual Conference to bring one can of food.
These cans will be collected in the lobby at Conference and used to construct a sculpture in the lobby for all to view. On the Afternoon of Service these cans will be placed into grocery carts and wheeled through the streets of Covington on their way to Grace United Methodist Church for use in their food pantry. Please help us out and bring a can.
