United Methodist Women Celebrate Mission around the World
On October 23, 2010, ladies and gentlemen from all around Kentucky gathered together at Christ Church United Methodist for the 14th Annual Mission Celebration, “Sharing the Mission Story.” We had the opportunity to hear stories of local United Methodist Women units reaching our in their communities.
We heard about three Louisville-based ministries. Angel Gustavison, Youth After-School Coordinator, shared the mission story of Portland Promise Center, and Portland’s after-school program children’s choir shared musical selections. Dr. Renee Campbell, Executive Director, shared the mission story of Wesley House. Rhoda Peters, President, Lighthouse Board of Directors, shared the mission story of The Lighthouse, and their children came and shared in a special dance.
We heard from a Kentucky-based ministry. Jerry Lambdin, Mission Outreach Director, shared the mission story of Henderson Settlement. We heard from global-based ministry. Sherri Morrissey discussed the work of the Thailand Methodist Mission where she ministers. We shared our offering to support the Henderson Settlement and the Wesley House.
As the hymn “Here I am Lord” was sung, each of us felt our mission story. We shared warmth and comfort to babies with quilts and blankets made with love by United Methodist Women from all around Kentucky for ABC Quilts of Kentucky. We shared stories as we gathered together for lunch and visited with old friends and met new friends we will continue to share our stories with for years to come.
We ended our day of celebration with thanksgiving and Holy Communion. We extend an invitation to you to join us for the 15th Annual Kentucky Conference Mission Celebration Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Madisonville First UMC.
