Wonderful World Record
No one can do it as fast as God, but the Portland Promise Center has created the world! Yes, on May 21, 2011, the children and youth at the Portland Promise Center achieved Guinness World Record history by creating the world’s largest ball of tape. The Peaceball, as it is known, took over a year to finish and was recorded at 2000 pounds (is that a ton?) when it claimed its accreditation. Started as a project to build awareness of the Promise Center and its dreams of peace in the Portland Community and beyond, the Peaceball became a true love of the center’s participants. Spearheaded by Drew Watkins, a youth from the center, the project involved over 50 children and youth from the Portland area plus the greater community as the ball visited New Song, St. James Art Fair, Louisville Slugger Field, the Yum Center, the Bacon Ball, 4th Street Live and the Missions Car show.
