Thanksgiving From the Foglemans
February 27, 2012
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now…”
Philippians 1: 3-5
As we prepare to board the plane in Atlanta for Uganda and take the 12 hour car ride on to Yei, South Sudan, we are humbled and amazed how God has worked out all of the details for this new health ministry since we left Red Bird Clinic six months ago. We were privileged to call Kentucky our home over the last 14 years – we leave two adult children, our only granddaughter, and many colleagues and friends in the Bluegrass State! It has been our privilege to come to know many of you personally – and for that, we praise God!
In this past week we learned of the generous gift from The Kentucky Annual Conference for God’s work in South Sudan - $10,000 for a portable ultrasound machine, and $40,000 toward a 4WD vehicle for a mobile clinic to many villages surrounding Yei. We are so thankful – and must give all honor and praise to this awesome God we serve together!
As family physicians, we recognize the importance of disease prevention and health education if we hope to see healthy families and communities in this new country with so many needs. We plan to use the model of Community Health Evangelism (CHE) to share the good news of Jesus alongside the messages of sanitation, hygiene, improved pregnancy care, immunizations, and malaria prevention. Your financial support will accelerate our work as we arrive in country and begin this health ministry within the East Africa Conference of the UMC. We appreciate your partnership in this God’s mission in South Sudan and will keep you informed regularly. Thank you for your prayers for us – and for the church in South Sudan!
God bless!
