UPWARD Basketball & Cheerleading Thriving at Hindman UMC
January 25, 2013
Hindman United Methodist Church is proud to bring their 10th season of UPWARD Basketball and Cheerleading to Knott County. Upward Sports is the world's largest Christian sports league for kids and has become the place to play fun sports. Upward Sports at Hindman United Methodist Church is for children beginning at age 4 through 6th grade. Upward teams feature equal teams, equal playing time, post-game awards, and much more.
Upward Sports partners with Hindman United Methodist Church and is one of 5,152 family-friendly leagues to provide first-class, organized and welcoming kids basketball and kids cheerleading leagues. This Christian sports program at Hindman United Methodist Church would never be possible without the commitment of our volunteers. Many have been participating since we began hosting Upward Basketball & Cheerleading. Just saying THANK YOU would never be enough
.
We are blessed to have most of our players from previous years return year after year – until they age out! This year we have a record number of participants, many new families have come. They appreciate that their children are taught basic basketball skills in a positive environment. It is a wonderful experience, and we have had many compliments on how the practice sessions and game days are conducted. There is always a time set aside for devotions, teaching the children important lessons on being more Christ-like and asking them to memorize scripture verses.
Upward Sports uses the universal language of sports to connect with kids at a critical age and help them to develop values for life, discover and build athletic skills, self-confidence and a life-long love of the game.
The money raised through concessions goes toward the purchase of trophies and gives the church the ability to provide full and partial scholarships for children that would otherwise not be able to participate.
At Upward Sports and Hindman United Methodist Church, families matter. Our leagues give families all the benefits of participating in team sports while protecting them from hectic travel schedules and the win-at-all costs mentality that burns out young athletes. With just a one-hour practice and one-hour game each week, our leagues conveniently fit into busy family schedules.
This year we are taking this program one step further by inviting the Upward families to join us for our Food, Fellowship & Fun Nights on Wednesday evenings in January. These are very casual gatherings where we serve a meal and provide a time out for parents for crafts, playing cards, board games, or just visit with each other. Our youth have activities for the children. We want to get to know the parents better, and in turn want them to get to know us.
