Food Pantry Needs Help
February 25, 2013
The food pantry shelves at Red Bird Mission are looking bare these days. Tracy Nolan says, "The Federal Food and Shelter funding was not provided last year and this year's funding has not been issued yet. This makes it impossible to keep up with the community's need for emergency food assistance."
Emergency food boxes for families provide a seven-day supply of food that includes proteins, milk, grains, vegetables and fruit. The following items are desperately needed:
Last year, Red Bird Mission distributed 348 emergency food boxes to low income individuals and families, 198 monthly sponsored boxes to families with children, and 2,016 Commodity boxes to older adults. Careful screening is done each time a request comes in to verify the need.
