Open Door Dental Clinic to Open July 13

July 09, 2013

In 2008 Rev. Dr. Jean Hawxhurst and Parish Nurse Peggy Bennett presented a vision to Fourth Avenue UMC and the Open Door Ministry: to serve those beyond the church building by offering the services of a parish nurse and a health clinic.  That resulted in the Healthy-Living Clinic, a medical assessment and advocacy program, that has been in operation since October of that year.  Nurse Bennett was unsure of how her efforts would be viewed, "I didn't think they would accept me, but they did".  Nurse Bennett along with many others poured her heart and soul into making the clinic a success.

Early on, the health needs of the Open Door guests were surveyed and the primary need was dental care assistance.  A new vision was cast.

On Saturday, July 13th at 10:00 a.m., we will gather at Fourth Avenue to celebrate the opening the Open Door Dental Clinic.  Under the direction of Peggy Bennett and Dental Director Dr. Barbara Stratton and supported by many others and much prayer, the dental clinic has become a reality.

Open Door wishes to thank all those who supported this effort through donations, prayer and labor.  We especially wish to thank the Good Samaritan Foundation, Norton HealthCare, Dr. Stratton, Dr. Raja Kara and Eagle Scout Jack Kennamer.

Please join us July 13th as we rededicate our efforts in the name of Christ.
