Winter Blitz 2014 Wrap-Up
February 06, 2014
What a weekend! Over 2,000 brave souls turned out for Winter Blitz 2014. Though there was a forecast of snow and a definite chill in the air outside, Broadbent Arena was definitely on fire inside. The local up-and-coming band, Carrollton, offered three days of praise and worship music; Bryan Drake amazed us and presented a message using illusions to help us see the Christ-centered truth; and keynote speaker John Vermilya used storytelling and humor to bring the Word of Christ alive.
On Saturday, over 300 youth and young adults participated in our Mission Excursions, helping to serve and to make a difference in the lives of many people in and around the Louisville area. Although the spots to go and serve during the mission excursion were limited, everyone had the opportunity to give to the mission offering. Congratulations, Winter Blitz! You collected over $2,000 in this year's offering! The donations will go to help with costs associated with the 2014 summer youth mission trip to Honduras.
Associate Director of Ministries with Young People, Rev. David Sparks, was able to be in attendance and everyone was excited to see him. For some who may not know, David has been fighting cancer since November and this was his first public appearance since his diagnosis. While he was out of pocket, David’s legion of volunteers stepped in and brought us a Winter Blitz that lived up to the standard to which we are accustomed. We want to send out a huge thank you to all the volunteers who made Winter Blitz 2014 a success!
Winter Blitz is an annual event produced and promoted by our Ministry with Young People Network for the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church.
