2014 Annual Conference Mission Offering Details
February 18, 2014
All churches in the Kentucky Conference are invited to participate in a mission offering that will be shared equally between Blessing Home and the Red Bird Missionary Conference. Our theme for this year's conference is "Equipping Servant Leaders." Both of these ministries are seeking to equip leaders in their respective areas. Bishop Davis and the Cabinet have set a goal of raising $125,000 with this offering.
Blessing Home
Blessing Home is a ministry of the Life Center United Methodist Church, in partnership with the Thailand Methodist Mission. They have two locations: Pattaya is Ground Zero for child trafficking throughout the world and Nonsoomboon, a more rural region where many children are sent to Pattaya because their families cannot afford to raise them. Tens of thousands of children are trafficked there every day.

Children as young as 3-4 years old are enslaved by traffickers. Many children in Thailand are trafficked by their families, care-givers or guardians. At-risk children are received into Blessing Home at 2-3 years of age, where they receive Christian nurture, nutritious food, medical care, education and the message of hope in Christ. Blessing Home fives opportunities to raise children as leaders for the future of Thailand and our church.
Red Bird Missionary Conference
The Red Bird Conference is one of three missionary conferences in our United Methodist Church. A missionary is different from other conferences because most of the pastor’s salaries are subsidized by the conference in order to maintain a minimal level of compensation.
The Red Bird Conference is one of three missionary conferences in our United Methodist Church. A missionary is different from other conferences because most of the pastor’s salaries are subsidized by the conference in order to maintain a minimal level of compensation.
Pastors in the Red Bird Conference are considered to be missionaries and serve in churches that have very limited resources and therefore have difficulty covering all the expenses of a local church. Red Bird Conference pastors are working to lead their congregations to equip servant leaders. When support is given for their pastors, it is the same as supporting a missionary anywhere in the world.
Pastors in a missionary conference are asked to do missionary work: sharing the Gospel and meeting physical, spiritual and community needs. Red Bird Conference pastors serve for extremely low compensation and do it with a spirit of call and devotion. Financial support, as well as prayers, physical involvement through one of the Red Bird Churches, and supplies of needed items, are always appreciated.
Sunday, June 1, is the designated date for collection of this year’s offering. If that date is not convenient for your church. please collect the offering at a more conducive time. Each congregation is asked to send its offering to Annual Conference with the church’s lay member. Checks should be made payable to the Kentucky Conference Treasurer.
