Bishop Davis Welcomes Cuban Bishop

April 30, 2014

Bishop Lindsey Davis welcomed Bishop Ricardo Pereira Diaz to the United Methodist Center today. Bishop Pereira is the Bishop of Cuba where he presides over a rapidly growing church. The Methodist Church of Cuba has 96 congregations with 15 District Superintendents. Each District Superintendent also serves as a local church pastor. Also, Bishop Pereira serves a large church in Havana. Several of our Kentucky pastors are assisting the Cuban Methodists with clergy and laity training. One interesting feature of Cuban Methodism is that any pastor wishing to become ordained must first plant and grow a new church, while also completing their theological training. Demonstrated fruitfulness as a pastor precedes any ordination.
