AC 2014 Tuesday Recap

 Worshipful Work

The morning session began with Bishop Davis issuing the call to order, and the presentation of the Denman Evangelism Awards to Greg Gallaher, clergy, and Asa Swan, laity. Paul Brunstetter gave a presentation on the planting of new faith communities as well as an introduction of the church planters, followed by a prayer for them by Bishop Davis. Other reports included church health, Wesley Manor, ministry opportunities in Belize, Board of Ordained Ministries, Imagine No Malaria and Impact Kentucky.

Young Adults and Missions

Shelby Chamberlain, President of the Conference Youth and David Sparks shared about ministry with young people, and Jennifer Davis spoke about the Honduras mission trip and the Jewelry and Tie sale. Bishop Davis had a special presentation and accepted donations for the Honduras trip. Mike and Sherri Morrissey shared about their ministry in Thailand, and Farley Stuart spoke on Red Bird Conference. Both the Thailand ministry and the Red Bird conference are recipients of tonight’s mission offering.

The Church has Left the Building!

700 United Methodists participated at over 25 service sites throughout Northern Kentucky during our Afternoon of Service today. Projects ranged from visiting retirement homes, landscaping, delivering and serving food, and prayer walks throughout Covington.

“Leaders Create Change.”

The Mission Service was led by Dale Mowery, and the Rev. Adam Hamilton of Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas led his first session at the service. Rev. Hamilton spoke on the importance of being authentic as a leader, being a people person and following spiritual practices of humbleness and serving others. He spoke on the difference between being a manager and a leader, and that leaders inspire and create change. “Leadership is what is desperately needed today in the United Methodist Church,” Rev. Hamilton stated.
