Heroes, Saints & Legends to Honor Two Long-Time Conference Members

August 28, 2014

On Tuesday, October 7, Wesley Village will host their 17th Annual Heroes, Saints and Legends Awards Banquet. Two couples will be honored at the 2014 banquet, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Melvin and Jean Bowdan and Drs. J.B. and Bette Crouse.

Melvin and Jean Bowdan are a couple who have served the military, academia and the United Methodist Church (UMC) with excellence and a pioneering spirit of obedience to the Lord. Mel, a former secretary and lay leader of the Kentucky Annual Conference of the UMC, served with distinction at home and abroad in the U.S. Army as well as leading multicultural programs and teaching at the university level. Jean also taught in both higher education and ministry settings, equally at home in discussing advanced organic chemistry and her favorite Psalms.

J.B. and Bette Crouse were life-long missionaries both by profession and by nature, J.B. and Bette served in Korea for 34 years before returning to the United States to lead mission organization OMS International. J.B. drew on decades of experience helping rebuild a war-torn Korea and guiding evangelism and theological education initiatives around the world. Bette, a professor of nursing for 30 years, is a sought-after speaker, Bible teacher and pianist whose leadership gifts made their work at OMS a true team ministry. J.B. and Bette we informed that they would be honored at this year's banquet prior to his unexpected death on June 22, 2014.

A devotional reflection will be offered by Asbury University President, Dr. Sandra Gray.
