Couple in Ministry Together

December 12, 2014

Rev. George Burke and Rev. Shirley Burke have been appointed as Co-Pastors to the Coke Memorial United Methodist Church and were welcomed in on Sunday, November 16, 2014 in the Celebration of Appointment Service with Dr. Charles Brockwell, Retired Elder and former pastor of Coke Memorial United Methodist Church leading the service.

This clergy couple comes to Coke Memorial United Methodist Church as local pastors with 35 years of multi-faceted experience in the church that has prepared them for this appointment. Rev. George and Rev. Shirley entered the candidacy process in the United Methodist Church in the spring of 2013 and have been faithfully serving at the Mosaic Church under the pastorate of Rev. Eliseo Mejia. Rev. George was appointed to Mosaic as Associate Pastor and Rev. Shirley served as Executive Director overseeing the implementation of Mosaic’s UMC’s Ministry Action Plan.

Pastors George and Shirley together at Mosaic started the C.A.R.E. 4 Couples Ministry giving leadership to couples in the Marriage Enrichment Class. Other Ministry involvements: Maximize Manhood Ministry, Congregational Care Team, Discipleship Training and Bible study/relationship training for youth on the Song of Solomon.
They were born-again minutes apart and called to preach months apart. Now begins their journey as a clergy couple who pastor TOGETHER.
