Advocacy Team to Sponsor Joint MLK Celebration

The Kentucky Conference Advocacy Team will sponsor a joint Martin Luther King Celebration on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Coke Memorial United Methodist Church. Addressing the Christian Unity area of focus, members of the team have convened area Pan Methodist Churches; United Methodist, Christian Methodist Episcopal, African  Methodist Episcopal and African Methodist Episcopal Zion, to plan a celebration together honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, civil rights leader and drum major for justice.
 
As a part of the celebration, morning workshops will be presented:  “Reconciliation and the Death Penalty: Abolishing the Death Penalty in Kentucky” led by the Kentucky Conference Justice Team and a youth and young adult workshop, “Living The Dream Today” led by Pan Methodist Churches Christian Education Directors and Youth and Young Adult Coordinators.
 
An Essay Contest for Elementary, Middle and High School students focusing on the title, “The Dream Changed My Life,”is open for Pan Methodist Church students participating in the celebration. Winners will be announced and awards presented during the event.
 
The speaker for the Worship Service is Rev. Christopher Shawn Campbell, Lead Pastor of The Plaza Church of Charlotte, North Carolina and former pastor of Genesis United Methodist Church.
 
The schedule for the day is
11:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. – Workshops
12:30 P.M. – 1:15 P.M. – Refreshments
1: 15 P.M. – Prelude Music and Re-Enactment of a Civil Right March
1:30 P.M. – Worship Service
