The Kentucky Conference is pleased to announce that Nathan Calvert has been hired to fill the dual position as Director of Kavanaugh and Ministry with Young People.
In collaboration with the local church Nathan will carry out our conference Camp & Retreat Ministry's Vision of kindling Christian community, making disciples, and developing Christ centered leaders. He will work to expand the Mission Basecamp ministry which connects youth and adults with mission opportunities in the Louisville area along with a base of operations that will provide teambuilding, reflection, and other opportunities for spiritual growth. As the conference director of Ministry with Young People Nathan will work to equip and empower the leaders and youth of our conference through retreats, trainings, Winterblitz, and a renewed focus on district youth leadership. Nathan's biggest task is to connect, listen, and partner with churches and leaders throughout our conference who are passionate about youth, missions, and retreat opportunities.
Nathan will be replacing Rev. Don Craig who is retiring as director at Kavanaugh. Don is retiring after more than 4 years of service to the camp and retreat center.
Nathan will begin work at Kavanaugh on November 15, 2016. He and Don will serve together for a few weeks in a time of transition.
Nathan comes to us from St. John UMC in the Heartland District, where he served as Minister of Youth. Nathan has a rich understanding of our conference camp and retreat ministry. He was first invited to church at Kavanaugh's pool, Nathan gave his life to Christ at Loucon, and he experienced a call into ministry while on retreat at Aldersgate. He's been pursing that call into youth ministry; however more recently God has been calling him to step out in faith. We are humbled how God has utilized these ministries to shape Nathan's life, and we are excited about Nathan's vision for this ministry.
Nathan is married to Dr. Emily Calvert, PhD, and they are the parents to four sons: Isaac, Jonathan, Luke and Benjamin.
Join us as we welcome Nathan to the conference staff.
