Conference Communications staff wins 5 UMAC awards

Kentucky Annual Conference Communications staff members have been recognized for five superior pieces of their work during the 2021 competition of UMAC, the United Methodist Association of Communicators.
The winning entries were:
“We are extremely fortunate to have a communications staff that sees what they do as a ministry and work so very hard to serve all the United Methodist of Kentucky,” said Rev. William Moore, Director of Connectional Ministries. “We are so very thankful for their work and so very proud of their accomplishment in receiving these awards.”
According to UMAC, the Awards Contest considered material between Nov. 1, 2019, and Oct. 31, 2020. “All entries were judged on meeting their stated purpose; content; creativity; execution; and regard for target audience, using a 50-point scale,” according to the UMAC digital brochure announcing the winners.
Awards were given for first-, second- and third-place winners of each category in each division, as well as one Best of Class award given in each class.
The two divisions are: Annual Conference or Local Church, and General Church Agency or Jurisdictional Area. There are 10 classes with multiple categories in each class: print publications, digital publications, writing, internet communications, video production, audio, photography, visual design, publicity and advertising, and media presentations.
The winning entries were:
- Connie Offutt, Communication Assistant/Video Specialist/Social Media Manager: first place, Motion Graphics, for Aldersgate Camp promotional piece, Motion Graphics Category, Class VIII – Visual Design.
- Cathy Bruce, Associate Director of Connectional Ministries for Communications: second place, “George at Peace,” Photo Series, Class VII – Photography.
- Cindy Young, Graphic Designer: second place, 2020 Camps’ Brochures, Special Publication, Section or Supplement Category, Class I – Print Publications.
- Bruce, third place, “Sign of the Times,” Photo Series, Class VII – Photography.
- Young, third place, 2020 Annual Conference logo, Logos/Branding Development Category, Class VIII – Visual Design.
