January 25, 2017
From Friday, January 20th to Sunday, January 22nd over 1500 youth and youth leaders came together at Broadbent Arena in Louisville, KY to celebrate Christ at Winter Blitz 2017. On Friday, the atmosphere was electric as vans full of energetic youth groups pulled up and unloaded youth from throughout the conference. Once in the lobby lots of silly selfies and group pictures were taken as everyone awaited the open sounds of the praise band Carrollton. Once the band took the stage the weekend was off and running, full-steam ahead.
Other groups that shared in making the weekend an uplifting experience for everyone in attendance was the 3-2-1 Improv group, the speaker for the weekend, Efrem Smith and our campus ministers and Wesley foundations that lead games and icebreakers throughout the weekend.
On Saturday, groups were given the opportunity to impact the Louisville area by going into the community and serving others. Youth groups participated in projects as varied as sorting items for a clothes closet to cleaning a homeless camp located under an overpass.
During the Saturday night Winter Blitz session the youth were very generous in their giving and an offering of $2,304.25 was collected. The offering will be split between the Youth Service Fund to support Imagine No Malaria; Honduras Outreach Inc, to help fund our summer youth mission trip; and our Kentucky Conference Camps. Also on Saturday night an altar call was issued and many youth responded that they were ready to commit their hearts and souls to Jesus.
On Sunday, after a full line up of Carrollton, Efrem Smith and 3-2-1 Improv, Bishop Leonard Fairley led communion. At the end of the communion service, Bishop Fairley issued a Call to Ministry and 60 youth responded. Those that responded will be followed up with as they are helped with discerning what their calling may be.
If you didn't make it to Winter Blitz 2017, it's not too early to start planning for next year! Winter Blitz 2018 will be January 19 - 21, 2018. Hope to see you there!
