Three people join KAC staff

August 01, 2018
Three people have recently joined the staff at the Kentucky Annual Conference office in Crestwood: Rev. David Garvin, director of Administrative Services/Conference treasurer; Mandy Stewart, accounting assistant; and Cindy Young, graphic designer. If you’re at the Conference Center, stop by and tell them hello and welcome!

Rev. David Garvin
CHURCH: St. Paul mostly (with other Conference church adventures and visits along the way)
KAC JOB: Conference Treasurer/Director of Administrative Services
HOBBIES: Reading, running, food, travel, time with family
ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES ME IS: Nerdy
FAVORITE FOOD: Any food truck dish
LEAST FAVORITE FOOD: Lima beans
FAVORITE BIBLE VERSE: Philippians 2: 1-11: “Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. …”
BIGGEST PERSONAL VICE: According to my co-workers, I don’t own a pair of blue jeans.
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I EVER GOT WAS: Wash your hands.
THE WORST PIECE OF ADVICE I EVER GOT WAS: Sign all of your blank checks now, it will save you time later.
HOW HAPPY ARE YOU TO BE WORKING AT THE KAC, AND WHY? I’m thrilled – and humbled – to join an amazing group of people who are committed to the work of God through the meaningful ministries of the Kentucky Conference.
YOUR LIFE STORY, IN A COUPLE OF SENTENCES: From Louisville to St. Louis to Louisville to Durham to Greensboro to Louisville again. From home to school to school to work to school (again) to work. From single to husband to father (2x). All the while, God going before me, God constantly with me, and prayerfully God at work in me. Soli Deo gloria.

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I EVER GOT WAS: What works for one kid won’t necessarily work for another.
THE WORST PIECE OF ADVICE I EVER GOT WAS: Cheap toilet paper works just as well.
HOW HAPPY ARE YOU TO BE WORKING AT THE KAC, AND WHY?
After several years as a stay-at-home mom, I am happy to be re-entering the workforce in an environment that allows me to serve God directly with the talents He gave me.
YOUR LIFE STORY, IN A COUPLE OF SENTENCES:
I was raised in a small town in Southern Illinois. I earned a degree in civil engineering, married my college sweetheart a week after graduation, and moved to the Louisville area soon after. We have two beautiful children, a boy and a girl, who could easily pass as our clones.

ONE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES ME IS: Crafty
FAVORITE FOOD: My favorite food would probably be a juicy medium-rare venison tenderloin steak cooked on a charcoal grill with a homegrown garden salad as a side.
LEAST FAVORITE FOOD: green beans
FAVORITE BIBLE VERSE: Proverbs 21:31: “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD.”
BIGGEST PERSONAL VICE: People who are rude and who have no regard for anyone around them but themselves.
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE I EVER GOT WAS: Enjoy life and its unexpected challenges. Live life in the present and never look back. The best is always yet to come.
THE WORST PIECE OF ADVICE I EVER GOT WAS: I told you so…
HOW HAPPY ARE YOU TO BE WORKING AT THE KAC, AND WHY? Extremely happy! From the very first day on the job, I was made to feel welcomed and appreciated. The work environment and everyone here are all so wonderful. I’m blessed to be a part of a team and to work with people who are respectful, fun and creative.
YOUR LIFE STORY, IN A COUPLE OF SENTENCES: I grew up as a city girl in the suburbs of Dearborn, Michigan. Moved to Kentucky in 1991, where I met and married my husband several years later on horseback (1996). Moved to the country and live in an old farmhouse on 5 acres with four horses and a cattle dog named Jessee. I loved horses as a child but never dreamed of ever owning them. I apparently was on the right path that led me to Kentucky and my husband, Steve.
